## Building Ọpọlọ — A Private AI That Knows Me
I’m starting a long-term personal AI project called **Ọpọlọ** — Yoruba for *brain*.
The idea is simple, but ambitious:
**I want to build an AI that becomes a private digital representation of me — my knowledge, experiences, preferences, projects, ways of thinking, and the things I’ve learned over time.**
Not another general-purpose chatbot.
Not an AI product for everyone.
**This one is for me.**
I’m a software engineer, and I want to approach this as a serious long-term engineering and research project. I’m not trying to rush an MVP or turn it into a startup. I want to spend the next year or two understanding the problem properly before deciding exactly what the architecture should look like.
### What I want Ọpọlọ to eventually understand
* What I know
* What I’m learning
* How I solve problems
* How I make decisions
* My projects and ideas
* My goals and plans
* My preferences
* My experiences
* My personal knowledge and memories
* The context behind the things I tell it
The goal isn't simply for Ọpọlọ to **remember information**.
I want it to understand the **context behind the information**.
For example, instead of simply remembering that I prefer a particular technology, I want it to eventually understand *why* I prefer it, when that preference applies, and when it might actually be wrong.
### Privacy is a core principle
Ọpọlọ is intended to be deeply personal.
My family life, relationships, income, business plans, personal plans, location, private thoughts, and other sensitive information should remain private.
The fundamental idea is:
> **My information belongs to me.**
Ọpọlọ shouldn't become a system where other people can casually access my personal life simply because the AI knows it.
### I'm starting with the hardest part: understanding myself
Before writing a lot of code, I'm documenting how I actually think.
How do I approach difficult problems?
How do I learn?
How do I make decisions?
What principles do I refuse to compromise?
What information should Ọpọlọ remember?
What should it forget?
When should it challenge me instead of agreeing with me?
When should it stay quiet?
Those questions will eventually become engineering requirements.
For example, one thing I've already discovered about my problem-solving process is:
**Understand the problem → find the root cause → research → choose the simplest reliable solution.**
That sounds simple, but eventually I want those kinds of patterns to become part of Ọpọlọ's cognitive model.
### This is going to be slow
I'm deliberately not rushing this project.
I want to spend significant time on the philosophy, information model, memory architecture, privacy model, reasoning system, and human-AI interaction before committing to implementation decisions.
Maybe the final system will look very different from what I'm imagining today.
That's okay.
**The goal isn't to build fast. The goal is to build something that actually understands what I'm trying to build.**
Ọpọlọ is still at the beginning.
This is the first step.
**Building a private AI that doesn't just know my information — but understands me.**
